2010 Humanitarian Awards Dinner Raises $1.4 Million

Kilduff.jpgOn May 18th, 2010 the FDNY Foundation's premier fundraising Dinner, presenting the Fire Commissioner's Humanitarian Awards was held at The New York Hilton.

  In spite of the current economic climate, one thousand guests attended this highly anticipated event and raised nearly $1.4 million to fund promotion of fire safety in New York City and the professional development, training and education of FDNY members.

Additionally, The Chief William Feehan Fire Safety Education Award was presented to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Elementary School, in Manhattan for their commitment to fire safety education in their curriculum. 

The evening's guests were welcomed by the FDNY Emerald Society Pipes & Drums, whose world-renowned music preceded the beginning of the dinner's events.

The Foundation supports the lifesaving work of FDNY members through various initiatives and sponsors a variety of educational and public awareness programs designed to reduce the number of fires and fire fatalities. Among its recent accomplishments, the Foundation sustains the FDNY FSEU program which continues its fire safety campaign distributing more than 30,000 smoke detectors and 150,000 smoke alarm batteries throughout the City, partnered with the Leary Firefighters Foundation to fund the nation's first high-rise simulator at the FDNY Fire Academy and given nearly 9300 fire safety presentations to 660,000 New Yorkers through the Fire Zone on the Road program. Additionally, the Foundation assisted FDNY in obtaining CPR instructional kits and the FDNY CPR Unit directly trained 12,346 citizens in this lifesaving skill.
