FDNY Foundation Hosts Annual Humanitarian Awards Dinner

On Thursday, September 8th, the FDNY Foundation hosted its annual Humanitarian Awards Dinner. For the second consecutive year, the event took place at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall’s Island. This year’s event has raised over $3.1 million so far and supports the FDNY Foundation to help provide training, equipment, and education to FDNY members, fire and life safety education programs and much more. Gayle King, Co-Host of CBS Mornings served as the emcee for the night.

The FDNY and FDNY Foundation honored a long-time friend and supporter, Mark Bezos, the Founding Partner of HighPost Capital, LLC. Mr. Bezos has also been a volunteer firefighter in Scarsdale, New York for the last 17 years.

“Your generosity allows the FDNY Foundation to support the life-saving mission, programs, and the never-ending work of the FDNY. Your support saves lives. The FDNY Foundation funds scholarships, equipment, and training for members, as well as health and wellness programs for their families and so much more,” said FDNY Foundation Chairman, Stephen L. Ruzow.

Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said, “Tonight we gather to celebrate the fantastic work of this great department and the amazing work of the FDNY Foundation and all of its supporters which makes a difference for our members truly every single day.”

“I can’t thank the members of the FDNY enough for the tireless effort you put into keeping us citizens of this city safe and sincere gratitude to the FDNY Foundation for the support you provide to the best fire department in the world, and for the tremendous work you do to educate our neighbors about fire safety. Simply put, your efforts save lives,” said Mr. Bezos.

The FDNY Service Recognition Award was presented to the FDNY Robotics Unit. With generous support from the FDNY Foundation, the unit is developing cutting-edge tools, resources and procedures to aid the members of the Department in their lifesaving mission and is innovating search and rescue operations for the fire service worldwide. The unit also supports training initiatives, fire safety education through public service announcements, and helps determine best practices and standard operating procedures for the FDNY.

The FDNY Foundation sends our sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr. Bezos, our generous donors, and the FDNY for making this such a great event.
