“Chief” Virtual Screening Supports FDNY Mand Library
The FDNY Foundation announced a special screening of the film “Chief’, created by Can Man Productions, with support from FirstNet, Built with AT&T, about William Feehan and his time in the FDNY. The film is available online, to raise awareness and funding to support the digitization of historical archives at the George F. Mand Library.

The Library, located at the FDNY Bureau of Training on Randall’s Island, houses the department’s researchable history, and has been noted for its reference capabilities to scholars, fire departments around the world and FDNY firefighters studying for promotions in the department. With an aging collection of books, film, photos and reference materials dating back to the mid-1800’s, efforts to digitize and archive this collection are critical to preserving the rich history of the department’s evolution to modern day firefighting.

“Chief” is a 24-minute film about First Deputy Fire Commissioner William Feehan, one of the oldest and highest-ranking members of the FDNY killed on 9/11. The film is available through streaming services provided by Show and Tell, with support from JPMorgan Chase & Co.

An additional $75,000 financial contribution to the Mand Library Digital and Media Fund from JPMorgan Chase helped kick off the fundraising effort and continues to encourage other contributions to preserve this important treasure of the City of New York.

According to FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro, “The FDNY Foundation thanks the Feehan Family and their partners for producing “Chief,” a film about Commissioner Bill Feehan, one of 343 members of the Department lost on September 11, 2001. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and service will forever be a part of the FDNY. We’re grateful that proceeds from this film will go toward the FDNY Bureau of Training’s George F. Mand Library, a tremendous resource.”
