FDNY Fire Commissioner Nigro Announces 5% Decrease in Fire Deaths For 2020

As the year comes to an end, the FDNY Foundation wants to thank our friends and donors for their tremendous support of New York’s Bravest during this difficult year. Many of you graciously stepped up to help the FDNY Foundation ensure that our FDNY First Responders have the personal protective equipment, tools and resources to safely serve on the front lines of the Pandemic.

Our members continue to be on the frontlines in the fight against the pandemic. As the number of COVID cases are rising, our members continue to risk their lives and their health in service to others.

Your support of the FDNY Foundation plays a crucial role in the FDNY’s ability to meet the demands of this unprecedented crisis. With your help, we will continue to provide essential resources so that our members can respond and return safely to their families. Be it fires, medical emergencies, traffic accidents and more, our members are there when we call for help, responding with professionalism, compassion and skill.

Please remember to be #FDNYSmart this New Year’s:

• Don’t block escape routes with decorations or other items.
• Never leave burning candles unattended.
• Don’t overload electrical outlets and remember that extension cords are for temporary use only.
• Make sure you have a working smoke and carbon monoxide alarm on every level of your home.
