Happy Holidays from the FDNY Foundation

This holiday season, the FDNY Foundation wants to thank you – our friends and donors – for your generosity and unwavering support of New York’s Bravest. Your support of the FDNY Foundation allows us to fulfill our mission and enables us to fund exciting new initiatives and programs for the FDNY.

With the FDNY as our partner, we offer fire and life safety programming in every corner of the city. The FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit (FSEU) takes the lead and delivers informative and lively presentations to audiences of all ages. This year, the FSEU is on track to complete over 8,500 fire safety presentations and reach over 750,000 people.

We also fund GET ALARMED NYC, a critically important program that is helping us save lives by distributing and installing more than 200,000 Smoke/CO alarms in high-fire risk homes. And, we empower others to join us in our life-saving mission. Free CPR classes, the FDNY FireZone learning center and support for FDNY youth programs are just some of the ways we engage the community in working toward an ever safer City.

Together, we keep the FDNY strong and resilient by ensuring that our Firefighters and EMS personnel have the best available training and equipment.
Here are some #FDNYSmart safety tips to remember this holiday season:

  • Choose decorations that are flame-resistant or flame-retardant
  • Replace any string of lights that has worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections
  • Never leave burning candles unattended
  • If you use a space heater to warm your room, keep children and pets more than three feet away. Remember to plug your space heater directly into the wall and always turn it off when leaving the room or going to bed
  • As the nights grow colder, remember to Close the Door as part of your escape plan
