The FDNY Foundation is proud to join the FDNY to announce the inaugural edition of Pro Fit, an annual supplement to WNYF and Pro EMS. Pro Fit includes tips from the elite Fitness Units of the Fire and EMS Academies, fitness plans, stress coping strategies, nutrition and wellness goals, injury prevention tips, and more. All of the magazine’s contributors are FDNY health, safety and fitness experts who understand the rigors of the job and can offer tips that fit within first responders’ schedules.
Pro Fit’s articles are tailored to First Responders, who are widely revered for their strength and commitment to fitness. In the midst of demanding work schedules and busy personal lives, maintaining a high level of dedication to fitness can become a challenge. Given the rigorous demands of first responders’ jobs and increased risk for cardiac events, finding a sustainable fitness routine is critical.
“We are proud to publish Pro Fit in support of the men and women who keep our City safe and healthy,” said FDNY Foundation Executive Director Jean O’Shea. “The magazine features a tremendous collection of fitness and health articles from the Department’s experts and gives readers an inside glimpse into the gyms and training activities of the FDNY. We hope that it becomes a valuable tool for first responders.”
The magazine also highlights the Deputy Chief Orio Palmer Memorial Fitness Award and Deputy Chief Palmer, who made the Supreme Sacrifice on September 11, 2001 and who is known for his unwavering commitment to health and fitness.
The FDNY Foundation has partnered with Modell’s for Pro Fit’s launch. Additionally, from now until March, the Official Calendar of Heroes will be available at Modell’s locations in all five boroughs. All sale proceeds will support the Foundation’s Training and Education campaign.
