FDNY Foundation Joins the FDNY to Commemorate the 19th Anniversary of Sept. 11th

Nineteen years ago, our City was attacked and the world came to know what New Yorkers have always known – that the dedicated members of the FDNY will stop at nothing to save lives. As we look back with gratitude at the bravery of those who risked everything in service to others, we renew our pledge to “Never Forget.” The memory of innocent lives lost and of the 343 Firefighters and Officers who made the Supreme Sacrifice is embedded in our hearts.

The FDNY Foundation is deeply grateful to its friends and supporters. Together, we stood by the FDNY through the tragedy of 9/11 and helped it emerge stronger than ever. The Foundation works to respond to Department needs as they arise, funding state-of-the-art equipment and training for Fire and EMS, fueling innovation and helping the Department reach out to the public with educational programs that save lives.

FDNY members are being challenged again in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. During the height of the crises, our units responded to as many as 6,500 calls in one day, and members performed their duties with compassion and an unwavering commitment to service. Through generous contributions in honor of this remarkable COVID response, the Foundation is funding programs to care for Fire and EMS responders and their families who suffer from the effects of the Pandemic. Now, as the Department prepares for a potential second wave of virus spread, we remain steadfast in our resolve to respond should Department leadership request additional resources.

So our work continues. Never Forgetting means that we will always support the families of members who succumb to illnesses attributed to the World Trade Center response. In addition to the 343 members of the Department who perished on that terrible day, more than 226 FDNY members have lost their lives and thousands more are battling 9/11-related illnesses. FDNY members and their families live every day with the pain caused by 9/11, and we are determined to stand with them in their time of need.

The FDNY Foundation, established in 1981, is the official not-for-profit of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). The Foundation welcomes tax-deductible donations that help advance the FDNY’s goals, which include maintaining operational excellence, reaching out to the community with fire and life safety programs, and ensuring that our firefighters and EMS personnel are supported and have the best available training and equipment. Please make a donation to honor the memory of 9/11 and those who have died, and to support the lifesaving work of the FDNY.
