On Thursday, October 10th, the FDNY Foundation joined FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro and FDNY members for one of the most solemn days on the FDNY Calendar, the 112th Annual FDNY Memorial Day, held at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in Manhattan. Eight FDNY members were honored who have died in the past year.
The event honored three FDNY members who were killed in the Line of Duty: Firefighter Steven Pollard, Ladder 170, Firefighter Christopher Slutman, Ladder 27, and Lt. Brian Sullivan, Squad 41.
Five FDNY members who died while on active duty were also honored: Firefighter Michael Reilly, Engine 79, Firefighter Faizal Coto, Engine 245, Firefighter Stephen Brady, Engine 284, EMT Adam Vazquez, BHS, and Captain Michael Thomas, Division 8.
“We gather as one Department in a solemn show of respect for their families because it is our duty to care for them and to stand by their side, always,” said FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro.
Chief of Department John Sudnik said, “We will always remember your loved ones and we will continue to honor them through our exceptional work, today and every day.”
The FDNY Foundation remembers the eight FDNY members lost this year, and their bravery, dedication, service, and sacrifice to the people and city of New York.
