On Wednesday, September 9th, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for the World Trade Center Memorial Service at FerryHawk Stadium on Staten Island. The ceremony commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks and honored the 343 members who made the Supreme Sacrifice that day, and those who have since died from World Trade Center-related illnesses.
The FDNY Foundation joins the FDNY in Never Forgetting the FDNY members who made the supreme sacrifice on 9/11, and those who have since passed from World Trade Center-related illnesses.
The FDNY Foundation was honored to help support this event.
With the Lower Manhattan skyline as the backdrop, the Department honored the 343 members who made the Supreme Sacrifice that day at Manhattan Box 5-5-8087 World Trade Center, as well as the FDNY members—active and retired—who have since died from WTC-related illnesses.
“I know each of you carry a different story. Your burdens, however, are all the same. You are united in grief and love, and that spirit is what brings us to this moment, to this skyline,” FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore said. “As we mark 25 years since September 11, 2001, we carry an enduring responsibility to never forget. We are a Department that continues to grow stronger because it remembers where it came from.”
Chief of Department John Esposito said: “For the FDNY, September 11th is a day that has never ended—and it never will. Twenty-five years have passed, but the loss remains with us every single day. Today, we remember not only the lives lost on that day, but also the many first responders and survivors who have since suffered illnesses and loss as a result of their bravery. We honor their sacrifice and the strength of the families who continue to carry their legacy.”
