On Thursday, February 5th, the FDNY Foundation hosted the 2nd Annual State of the FDNY address at Mutual of America in New York City, highlighting the incredible work being done to keep New York City safe.
“From providing cutting-edge training and lifesaving equipment, to supporting fire safety education and fire and EMS innovation, the Foundation plays a vital role in the FDNY’s mission. The FDNY Foundation funds fire and life safety education to the public and training, equipment, and services to the department” said FDNY Foundation Chairman Matthew DiLiberto.
FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore provided an overview of the Department’s vision for the future, including how the FDNY is adapting to meet the evolving needs of New York City, from strengthening its workforce and supporting member wellness to ensuring emergency resources are available when they are needed most. “There are so many things the FDNY is able to do now because of the help from the FDNY Foundation,” said Commissioner Bonsignore.
Mr. DiLiberto discussed the needs of specialized FDNY units supported by the Foundation, including Fire Safety Education, Mobile CPR Training, Robotics, FDNY K-9, and Counseling Services. He also talked about the importance of training tools such as forcible entry simulators, CPR mannequins and fitness equipment, funded by the FDNY Foundation. Mr. DiLiberto closed the event with heartfelt thanks to everyone and a call for ongoing support.
“The FDNY has been busy and the challenges we face change every day. Because of the FDNY Foundation’s support, we are better prepared, better equipped, better trained, and ready to protect New York City today and into the future,” said Chief of Department John Esposito.
