On Thursday, September 24th, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a promotion ceremony for 81 FDNY Officers on Staten Island.
The 81 members were promoted to the ranks of: Deputy Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Battalion Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Supervising Fire Marshal, Fire Marshal and Marine Engineer.
The FDNY Foundation congratulates all 81 officers on their promotions! This is a tremendous accomplishment for them and their families. We wish them continued success and thank them for their service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York and proudly representing the FDNY.
We would also like to give a special shout out to Deputy Chief Michele Fitzsimmons, Chief of the Fire Academy, who was promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief. In 2025, Chief Fitzsimmons became the first female member of Fire Operations to reach the rank of Deputy Chief. She is currently the highest-ranking female uniformed member in Fire Operations.
“Some of you are already officers moving on to the next rank with years of experience leading others. Many of you are taking the first step to lieutenant and starting your climb,” Chief of Department John Esposito said. “Whether it is your first promotion or your fourth or fifth, leadership is more than a rank or a title. It is a responsibility every time you start a tour to make sure that your members are prepared and to do everything in your power to make sure that every member makes it home safely.”
