On Thursday, July 2nd, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a graduation ceremony for 235 Probationary Firefighters in Brooklyn.
The FDNY Foundation congratulates the 235 Probationary Firefighters on their graduation! They are a remarkable group and we wish them the best of luck in the FDNY. We thank them for choosing a career of service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York, and proudly representing the FDNY.
Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore said: “This graduating class of probationary firefighters is about more than a badge. It’s about carrying forward the legacy of the FDNY. These probationary firefighters carry with them a profound responsibility to honor those who came before them, protect one another, and ensure the promise to never forget lives on through their service.”
Chief of Department John Esposito said: “Today marks an important milestone. You have completed months of demanding training, you have been tested physically and mentally, and you have learned the foundations of this job. You have, what I consider, the greatest job in the world. You are now New York City firefighters.”
Over the course of 18 weeks at the Fire Academy, the probies trained in all aspects of firefighting, including fire suppression and medical response, hazardous materials, collapse and confined space rescues, auto extrication, building inspections and procedures for engine and ladder operations.
