On Thursday, October 30, Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker announced the line-of-duty death of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, 46. Paramedic Abdur Rahman died on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after finishing a shift at the FDNY Training Academy at Randall’s Island.
“The FDNY is mourning the loss of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, a dedicated Paramedic who served the people of New York for more than two decades,” said FDNY Commissioner Tucker. “He touched the lives of so many EMTs and Paramedics, and the many whose lives he saved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his three young children, and his family and friends.”
Paramedic Abdur Rahman was appointed to the FDNY on October 18, 2002. He was assigned to Manhattan Division 1 and then worked at Station 8 in Kips Bay. He was reassigned to Station 16 in Harlem and then to Station 13 in Washington Heights, where he worked for nine years. He was promoted to Paramedic in 2021 and worked at Station 8 and Station 4 in Lower Manhattan. He was assigned to the FDNY Training Academy at Randall’s Island at the time of his death.
A resident of Manhattan, he is survived by his wife, Nura Abdul-Karim, three daughters, Inaya, Iman, and Ihasan. He had eight siblings and was the favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews. Paramedic Abdur Rahman was a Marine Veteran who served for five years in Japan, and was involved in the community as a Boy Scout leader.
