On November 18, Robin Hood celebrated the work of three extraordinary organizations providing critical resources to those in need across the five boroughs. This year’s 36th annual Heroes Breakfast honored the FDNY Foundation, Teaching Matters, and Anthos|Home.
Tony Pasquariello, board member for both the FDNY Foundation and Robin Hood Foundation, introduced Firefighter Derrick Henderson who accepted the award on behalf of the FDNY Foundation. Firefighter Henderson shared his challenges and triumphs about his time with the FDNY and at the Captain Vernon A. Richard High School for Fire and Life Safety. He credits the staff at the high school for inspiring him to become an FDNY EMT. He continues to serve New York City as a Firefighter at Engine 26 in Midtown.
The FDNY Foundation thanks Firefighter Henderson for sharing his inspiring story and representing the many successful graduates from Captain Vernon A. Richard High School for Fire and Life Safety who are serving as Paramedics, EMTs and Firefighters with the FDNY. We thank Robin Hood for this great honor and their continued support of the FDNY.
Every day, New Yorkers overcome enormous challenges to build a better future for themselves, their family, and community. The Robin Hood Heroes Award recognizes individuals who exemplify this spirit, along with the Robin Hood grantees behind their stories. Through their remarkable leadership, Heroes teach us what it means to care for our most vulnerable and persevere no matter the odds.
