FDNY Foundation Congratulates 83 FDNY Fire Officers on their Promotions

On Thursday, May 29, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a Fire Officer Promotion ceremony on Staten Island. 83 members were promoted to the ranks of: deputy assistant chief, captain, lieutenant, chief marine engineer, marine engineer and marine wiper.

The FDNY Foundation congratulates these 83 Fire Officers on their promotions. This is a tremendous accomplishment for them and their families. We wish them continued success and thank them for their service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York and proudly representing the FDNY.

FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker, speaking to the promoted members, said: “Being a leader in the FDNY is more than just your rank. It’s being a role model, a quick thinker, and the person who people can turn to for help and guidance. I know all of you carry experience and wisdom that has brought you to this day. I encourage you to continue to be curious and continue learning.”

Chief of Department John Esposito added: “Congratulations to all our promotees. Remember, you did not get here alone. Although you did all the work, others were with you and helped you earn this.”

Among the promoted members was Firefighter Mark Dziemian, of Engine 217, who was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Lieutenant Dziemian has been hospitalized since going into cardiac arrest while operating at a 2-alarm fire in Brooklyn in March. Lieutenant Dziemian’s wife accepted her husband’s promotion at Thursday’s ceremony.

“Mark is a wise teacher and a mentor,” FDNY Commissioner Tucker said. “He is exactly the kind of leader we need in the FDNY.”
