On Wednesday, February 11th, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a graduation ceremony for 181 Probationary Firefighters in Brooklyn.
The FDNY Foundation congratulates the 181 Probationary Firefighters on their graduation! They are a remarkable group and we wish them the best of luck in the FDNY. We thank them for choosing a career of service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York, and proudly representing the FDNY.
“A quarter century ago, the men and women of the FDNY set the standard for what it means to serve. They defined the very word hero. They showed the world that no matter how dark the day, the FDNY will be the light,” said Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore. “Some may ask if you are ready to carry that mantle. I look at you, at this class, and know the answer is yes. You are proof that the FDNY did not just survive; it grew stronger. You are the generation that ensures the promise to never forget isn’t just a slogan on a plaque, it is a living, breathing commitment.”
“In this job, teamwork is everything. We succeed or fail as a team. You are now on our team, and you must realize what that means,” said Chief of Department John Esposito. “What you do on the fireground matters. The safety of every firefighter on the fireground is dependent on other firefighters knowing and doing their jobs. You must know your job, and you must do your job.”
The probies will be assigned to firehouses across the City.
