On Tuesday, September 2, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a promotion ceremony for 109 FDNY Officers at Queens College. These 109 members were promoted to the rank of Deputy Assistant Chief, Battalion Chief, Captain, and Lieutenant.
The FDNY Foundation congratulates all 109 officers on their promotions! This is a tremendous accomplishment for them and their families. We wish them continued success and thank them for their service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York and proudly representing the FDNY.
“These promotions aren’t just new titles or new badges. They are a symbol of your dedication, courage, your hard work, and your dedication to the FDNY. You’ve spent years sharpening your skills on the fire ground, building trust with your peers, and answering the call no matter the time or circumstance. From this day forward, you will be tasked with making decisions under pressure. You’ll be relied on to set tone in the firehouse, to assess difficult situations and to guide those working under you through every challenge this job presents,” said Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker.
“With promotions comes greater responsibility. It is a responsibility to lead, to set an example, and to guide the next generation of members. You have a responsibility to make sure everyone is prepared for whatever comes next,” said Chief of Department John Esposito.
Also at the promotion ceremony, the FDNY announced two longtime members would soon be retiring. Lieutenant Joseph LaPointe, who has led the Department’s Ceremonial Unit for more than two decades, will retire after more than 40 years of service. Assistant Chief Joseph Ferrante, who serves as the Queens Borough Commander, will also soon retire after more than four decades on the job.
The FDNY Foundation wishes Lt. LaPointe and AC Ferrante happy and healthy retirements! We thank them both for their tremendous support of the FDNY Foundation!
