The FDNY Foundation Remembers our Fallen Members at The FDNY Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

Wednesday, October 12th, was one of the most solemn days on the FDNY Calendar, the 115th Annual FDNY Memorial Day Service. Eighteen FDNY members who died this past year were honored.

The FDNY Foundation honors and remembers the eighteen FDNY members lost this year and their bravery, dedication, service, and sacrifice to the people and City of New York and the FDNY. They will never be forgotten.

“To date, 1,158 FDNY members have given their lives in the course of their sworn duty. More than 300 have died of illnesses related to their time at the World Trade Center, working in the rescue and recovery, and those numbers will continue to increase. We have faced countless other losses – grieving members of our FDNY family who we have had to say goodbye far too soon. “These were all amazing, selfless people who dedicated their lives to service, to their city, to their neighbors. They bravely risked their lives in honor of the oath of service they swore when they joined our great Department. Today is our most important day. Memorial Day – when we pay tribute to all of them,” said Acting Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.

Chief of Department John Hodgens said, “I invite you all to remember those we have lost, and to also pause for a moment to recall why we do what we do. Firefighters, Fire Marshals, EMTs and Paramedics – we all play different roles. But we are all united in our mission to public service, to doing good.”
