FDNY Foundation Sponsors “Fit to Fight” Rowing Competition

The FDNY Foundation is proud to have sponsored the second annual “Fit to Fight” Rowing Competition, held on Sat., June 9 at the Fire Academy on Randall’s Island.

The event was the brainchild of Captain Tom Tanzosh, who runs the FDNY Health and Fitness Unit at the FDNY Fire Academy. The Health and Fitness Unit now hosts the event, which brought together four-person rowing teams who compete in a 5,000 meter relay race for time.

“We are proud to support the health and fitness of FDNY members,” said FDNY Foundation Board Chairman Stephen Ruzow. “The men and women of the FDNY work tirelessly every day to keep the people of our city safe. We know this is an exciting way to highlight the importance of their own health and to give them an opportunity to earn fitness equipment for their firehouses and EMS stations.”

The top teams received a rowing machine for their Firehouse or EMS Station thanks to the generosity of the FDNY Foundation. Participants received complimentary “Zing” Bars, thanks to Foundation partner Zing.

34 teams from Firehouses and EMS Stations competed in the event. The top finishers received new rowers for their Firehouse or EMS Station.

The Foundation is proud to support events like this, which highlight the importance of fitness for members of the FDNY and allow the Foundation to support members’ commitment to their health.
