FDNY Foundation Funded Youth Workforce Development Alumni Make History at FDNY ‘Probie’ Graduation

On Friday, October 19th, 291 Probationary Firefighters graduated from the FDNY Fire Academy. The graduates included former FDNY Explorer, Valedictorian FF Andrew McShane, and seven other FDNY Youth Workforce Development alumni, making them the largest YWD group to graduate at once in FDNY history.

The FDNY Youth Workforce Development Program is funded by the FDNY Foundation, and its initiative is to help advance the opportunities for young people to become part of New York City’s Bravest. The program allows New Yorkers the opportunity to gain valuable insight into a career at the Fire Department, while also gaining work experience and assisting with educational and fitness requirements that are critical to successfully pursuing a career at the FDNY.
