FDNY and FDNY Foundation Launch Official 2019 FDNY Calendar of Heroes

The FDNY and FDNY Foundation celebrated the launch of the official 2019 Calendar of Heroes on Wed., July 25 in Times Square in Manhattan.

The release of the Calendar of Heroes is one of the most hotly anticipated events of the year. For the second year, there are two calendars: one featuring the men of the FDNY and one featuring the women of the FDNY.

“We look forward to this annual opportunity to highlight the incredible work of the brave men and women of the FDNY,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. “The members featured in the Calendar are representative of the entire Department. They represent men and women, Fire and EMS, and, most importantly, they represent the bravery, service and sacrifice of every member of the FDNY.”

As a part of the release of the calendars, featured FDNY members were on hand to greet fans and sign photos at the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza in Times Square.

“I have always wanted to be a part of the FDNY Calendar,” said FDNY EMT, Kristen Bernard, Emergency Medical Dispatch and model for the month of April. “I love that the proceeds go to helping the community, and that the knowledge one needs to save a life is available. I have family on the job and they are the ones that encouraged me to join the Department. This isn’t just a job, it’s family.”

“I know the calendar proceeds go to a great cause and that was one of the main reasons I wanted to be a part of this,” said FDNY Firefighter Michael Maniscalco, Engine157 and model for the month of January. “This calendar and these fire and life safety programs could help to save many lives. I also wanted to challenge myself physically and this pushed me to train harder than I ever have before. It’s a great opportunity to be a role model for others.”

“I wanted to represent the Department I work for and show what a rewarding career we have. I think the FDNY Foundation is so important,” said FDNY EMT Stephanie Godizzaro-McCaffrey, EMS Bureau of Training, and model for the month of October. “I am an instructor at the EMS Bureau of Training, so I know the importance of reaching out to the community and showing them lifesaving skills. I’m glad this calendar is helping make that possible.”

“This is something I have always wanted to do,” said FDNY Firefighter Anthony Ruggiero, Engine205 and model for the month of November. “I always looked up to the members that were in the calendar and I wanted someone to look up to me like that. I want to be a role model. I want kids to look at me and get excited about working hard for this career.”

Each month on the calendars brings a fire and life safety message, ensuring that each person who purchases a calendar can remain safe all year long.

The 2019 FDNY Calendar of Heroes is the only official calendar of the New York City Fire Department. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar go directly to the FDNY Foundation and allow the Foundation to promote fire and life safety education for residents and visitors to New York City, as well as to provide professional development, training and education for members of the FDNY.

“We are glad we are able to reach new audiences with messages of fire and life safety,” said FDNY Foundation Chairman Stephen Ruzow. “We know these calendars will hang on walls and refrigerators in homes around the world. The messages inside allows us to keep people safe through fire safety education and to bring awareness to the incredible work of the men and women of the Department, as well as the missions of the FDNY and the FDNY Foundation.”
